Serving Opportunities

Oscar Smith High School Food Distribution

River Oak is the site point-of-contact for Oscar Smith High School next week (and the weeks to come until school is back in) for items distributed while the schools give out bagged lunches. Currently OSHS has been serving 150-200 lunches a day. Chesapeake has asked churches to get involved by collecting supplies. A huge component of this is non-perishable food items.

We need to continue to collect as many of these things as we can in the weeks to come!  We are asking that items are to be dropped off at the church. Please leave items by the doors at lobby B. There are bins set up. We will be collecting until further notice.

The following donations are needed for students and families:

  • New school supplies, children’s books (story books and chapter books), & activity workbooks
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Non-perishable food items
  • Toiletries
  • Gift Cards
  • Diapers
  • Wipes

*Canned goods, canned tuna, pasta, pasta sauce, peanut butter, jelly, ramen noodles, instant rice, toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, canned/cup fruit, diapers and wipes are items that are first to run out.*

We are also able to bless students and teachers

Bless the Medical Staff

Medical personnel are in overdrive working on serving our community.  We have the opportunity to bless them by making face masks. Some people have used sheets and like material if they don’t have material at home. If you don’t have elastic, you can cut up ace bandages.

Once you have completed your masks, please pray over the person that will receive it then place it in a ziplock bag. Drop them off to the bin outside lobby B (under the carport). Medical personnel will stop by and pick them up from the bin.

Here is a pattern to use if you can’t find one.  https://youtu.be/VgHrnS6n4iA

*Amazon is still delivering if you need to purchase supplies.

Another way to bless local medical staff is making homemade cards. We have a bin next to the face masks for homemade cards for all medical personnel.  We want to be their encouragement during this time.  We want them to feel the hope of Jesus.
