     River Oak Church Preschool opened in the fall of 2008. We provide a loving early childhood environment where children can develop socially, emotionally, physically, intellectually and spiritually in a child-centered, play-centered program. We offer a half day (9:00am-12:00pm) program for children ages 2 -kindergarten. 

     Our school year runs from September –May and we follow the Chesapeake Public School calendar. Children in the 3 year old classes must be potty trained in September. The 2 year olds will be working on potty training in school.

River Oak Kindergarten

2010-2011

            Beginning in the 2009-2010 school year, River Oak began offering a kindergarten classroom. This class runs from 8:40 until 12:00 in order to meet the yearly time requirements for kindergarten. We will follow the Chesapeake Public School (CPS) pacing guides, cover all Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) for kindergarten, use CPS report cards, and complete the Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS) in the fall and spring. All of this information will transfer with your child to first grade.

            The focus of our school year will be on literacy and reading readiness. We will integrate math, science, and social studies into our daily routine. Beginning in October, once all beginning of the year academic assessments are completed, we will begin our reading groups. 

            This program is ideal for any child who enjoys hands-on learning with a small class size. Parents will be encouraged to volunteer weekly/bi-weekly during our reading group time.
